Medical insurance coverage in Colorado?
Jul 23, 2007 by Welcome to Colorful Colorado | Posted in Insurance
I live in Colorado and I cannot afford medical insurance for my daughter through my employer and I earn too much money to qualify for CHP.
My daughter's father can't even make the minimum child support payments without factoring medical insurance premium.
What I want to know is... Is it illegal not to have medical insurance even if I can't afford it. What will/can happen within the court system?
Thanks for the help!
It’s not illegal (yet) to not carry health insurance. If you are involved in some sort of custody battle, a judge might not look favorably on your passing up health insurance at work if you can afford it. If you can’t afford it, then it shouldn’t be held against you.
Group insurance through your employer should be the least expensive you can find, but you might check to see if your employer has a Health Saving Account (HSA). This account allows you to set aside money for insurance before it is taxed (Social Security and income tax). This tax savings means that your health insurance dollars are worth 10-30% more, since you use them before taxes are taken out. To have an HAS plan, you have to sign up for a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Since the deductible is high, the premiums are very low (and remember you’re paying them with tax-free dollars). This could save you money and show the court that you have insurance.
To find a qualified HDHP plan or just to compare regular insurance prices, log on to a site like http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and fill out a request for quote. You will be contacted by a local insurance broker who will contact all the reputable health insurance companies to find the best price for you. You are not obligate to buy, so it's worth a try. Good luck!

Advice from those with Legal Medical Marijuana in Colorado?
Jul 28, 2008 by catwomanlovesmj | Posted in Other - Health
My boyfriend suffers from severe nausea 24/7. He is considering getting medical marijuana. Those of you who use medical marijuana in CO, how did you get the card to use medical marijuana legally? Have you had any interesting, good, or bad experiences associated with being a legal marijuana user? Have you had any legal troubles or trouble getting employment with your marijuana use? Is it expensive? Do any insurance companies help with it? Overall, do you have any advice, anecdotes, or warnings about it?
Please only serious answers. Thank you!
I am not from Colorado, but some advice...
It is still federally illegal. Most people arent going to have any problems legally if you have the card. But, if you run into someone who is looking for someone to arrest, you can be. If you get caught with it in the car, you can still get a dui. If you get into a wreck bad enough to warrant drug tests and you test positive, you will still be held liable and your insurance probably wont pay, even if the other person was drunk, if marijuana shows up, it will be his fault.
As far as the work place... if you have the perscription, they cant fire you or hold it against you, for the most part. However, it will be his duty to make sure his employer is aware of it. He cant do anything on the job that requires working with heavy machinery or driving, and again, if an accident occurs that is bad enough to warrant drug testing, he will be held liable and his employers insurance will refuse to pay.
Legally, he would be safer if he went with marinol rather than actual marijuana. I have no idea if medical insurance will cover marijuana, but it should cover marinol. Marinol is a thc synthetic. http://www.marinol.com is the website for it.
Be careful with addiction. No, marijuana is not chemically addictive, but it IS phsychologically and emotionally addicitve.
Why so much nausea? Has he tried other anti enemics like emend, phenegran, compazine, ativan, even benedryal. Or some non narcotic things to try would be zantac and prilosec and other antacids. Those are the meds I was given as a cancer patient to combat nausea. Has he had an endoscopy? If you dont know why he is so nauseated, I would be concerned with finding a reason.
If this is cancer or chemo related, he needs to be careful. With a lowered immune system, real marijuana can be dangerous. It naturally contains bacteria and fungi which with a lowered immune system can cause massive infections.

New Life pastor helping Haggard, members deal with HBO documentary - Colorado Springs Gazette
10.01.09
The Rev. Brady Boyd of New Life Church has met twice over the past month with the controversial pastor he replaced almost 18 months ago: Ted Haggard. Boyd initiated the meetings in part to counsel Haggard and his wife, Gayle, on the struggles that have bedeviled Haggard since he was forced to resign as the head of New Life after an affair with a male prostitute. Haggard has since said he was sexually abused as a child and has struggled with his sexuality. "He is still trying to figure out what happened with his life and what to do next," Boyd said Friday. "Imagine having your whole world taken away." Besides praying together in their meetings at Haggard's Colorado Springs home, the two talked at their most recent meeting on Monday about Haggard's bitterness toward the 10,000-member church. "Any time someone is removed from a position, even with best intentions, there are hurt feelings," Boyd said. "He is dealing with a lot of hurt." Some of that hurt is on display in "The Trials of Ted Haggard," an HBO documentary premiering Jan. 29. In the documentary, Haggard lashes out at New Life, saying, "The church chose not to forgive me" and said "go to hell." Haggard on Friday told The Associated Press that said he was grateful for the severance New Life gave him, but angry over being forced to leave Colorado Springs as a severance condition. He also challenged the church's statement that he halted a process meant to restore him, saying he still receives counseling.
