Looking to start my own home based floral business in Arizona, where to start?
May 21, 2007 by krazykair | Posted in Small Business
I'm looking to do floral jobs on the side..I am a bookkeeper already for my job so I know how to file sales tax returns, etc...I'm just wondering what are the steps in setting up my business? Do I need to register with my city as well as the state of Arizona? Do I need to have an insurance bond to set up my business? Help!
For a home business, there are no specific bonds, unless your business is the type that needs a license and the license agency requires a bond. You do need to check with your local city office in regards to any permits or license fees required.
To say that your company is bonded is as simple as getting a general business bond, which would be a fidelity (Business Services) bond is easily attained and you can indicate that you are bonded.
It is very similar to insurance. It protects your clients in the event an employee is arrested and convicted for stealing from them. You will not be expected to cover the loss.
The rates are based upon the number of employees and the amount of coverage. They range from a $5000 bond with less than 5 employees at $100 to a $100,000 with 25 employees less than $800.
These are instant issue bonds are readily available on the internet or through your local insurance agent. You can run a Google search for fidelity Bond and find a site that has on line submissions. One of those sites processing on line applications is http://www.southcoastsurety.com .
You can see more information on fidelity bonds at http://www.southcoastsurety.com/fidelity-bonds.htm

How do I become a Life and Health Insurance Broker in Arizona?
May 23, 2007 by Samie | Posted in Insurance
I have found how to become an Agent, but I want to be the Broker. Is there a time requirement as an Agent, like in Real Estate, before I can become a Broker? Or can I study and pass the exams for Insurance Broker without a time constrant. I'm pretty smart and capable, and would like to just go do it, and start building up my own business. I don't know what the Broker Exam is called. What I have found seems a little abstract. Any help?
There isn't any difference, from your point of view, in an agent and a broker. The license is the same.
You want a producer's license.
Good luck finding someone to let you sell their insurance. That's the hard part.

How to start a business in caregiving.?
May 26, 2008 by thomas p | Posted in Small Business
I would like to start a business in caregiving in Arizona and need to know what i need to get started from licenses to business cards and insurance etc..
That's a tough one. I have a client who started her own senior assisted living facility in California. It was a lot of work. She had to get special approval from the state, the correct zoning permits and all that. The facility had to be up to code, installing wheelchair ramps, etc.
Not to mention the normal business stuff, like marketing, incorporating, accounting, insurance, staffing, supplies, etc.
I helped her with marketing, business cards, logo development, and website. The more funding you have, the more you'll be able to hire talent to take care of different responsibilities, lightening your load.
I'd suggest doing more research. How many companies already exist in the area you want to start your business, how much you'll need to get started, when you expect to be cash-flow positive, things like that. Write everything down. It might even help you to take a part time job at a caregiving company just to see how everything works there.
Best of luck!

LV lauded for being friendly to businesses - Las Vegas Review - Journal
10.01.09
"Las Vegas is a phenomenal town to do business in," said Vasas, whose company has three employees and 17 agents. "The tax climate is wonderful. By not having to pay all the different taxes, I can hire more employees and put more people to work." A new report backs up Vasas' glowing review. The Small Business Survival Index, a study from the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council in Virginia, says Nevada ranks No. 2 nationally for its friendliness to small businesses, primarily because of its favorable tax structure. Nevada was second only to South Dakota. The council bases the index's rankings primarily on a state's public policies and how they affect small businesses. Nevada ranked first in several areas, including tax rates for personal and corporate income and capital gains. Nevada also ranked first for having the lowest number of government employees per 100 residents. California ranked No. 49 in the index. Steve Hill, chairman of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, said businesses consider a broad variety of aspects when choosing whether and where to start a company.
