is it worth taking the free car option and paying the rip off extra insurance when travelling to Florida?
on virgin holiday its says free car included with basic third party insurance but then goes on to say you need to pay £18-25 extra a day for extra insurance (including damage , loss waiver etc) depending on the car you want ,this is with dollar.
yet on the dollar site to hire a car off them all insurances including damage waiver etc, are included in the price of the hire car and it works out cheaper.
In my opinion, this sounds like a scam that Dollar is trying to pull. In a recent article in a magazine that my Dad read, Dollar is one of the worst places to rent a car from because even though you buy their extra insurance, they still try to get money out of you (up to the car's value) if something happened to the car, even though the people had bought the extra insurance. They have also said that people did things to the car that were already there when the people got the car, but because the people couldn't prove that the problem was there before they got the car, they got slammed with the costs.
When I go to Orlando in December, I already checked with my insurance company and I do not need any additional insurance from the car rental places. Perhaps you should check with your as well to save money that you don't need to spend.
